On November 23th 2023, ICA organized an activity on the theme of how to appreciate English Poetries.
First of all, host Chrissy and guest Anna showed students the characteristics of English poetry, whether it is Chinese ancient poetry or English poetry, rhyme is the most essential feature of poetry, but the language characteristics of English poetry is mainly manifested in musicality, diversity of forms, symbolism and lyricism. Then, in order to let the students better understand the charm of English poetry, the host let them perform in groups, bringing them into the poetry, immersive, feel the charm and connotation of poetry. Finally, each of the students created and shared our own poetic works and gained a deeper understanding of English poetry.
Rhyme is the most essential feature of Chinese ancient poetry or English poetry. With the teacher’s explanation, the students enjoyed the beauty and rich connotation of English poetry music. In order to let the students better understand the charm of English poetry, the teachers let the students perform in groups. Through the performance, the students have a deeper understanding of the connotation and deep meaning of the poem. Under the guidance of the teacher, the students explored English rhymes and encouraged everyone to try to write a poem of their own. Everyone gave full play to their creativity and wrote their own poetry, which is the students’ perception of life and interpretation of love. Until the last moment of the activity, the rhythm of the poem still reverberated in the hearts of the students. This activity allowed students to appreciate the unique charm of English poetry, and also stimulated their enthusiasm and creativity for poetry creation. It adds a rich cultural background to students’ English learning, and also stimulates students’ interest in English learning. Thanks to the English Club for the wonderful experience!
