On September 1st, 2023, the 20-day online English Summer Camp for the freshmen 2023 at Hertfordshire College successfully concluded with an online closing ceremony held via Teams meetings. Moderated by April Huang, Head of English Language Centre, the online ceremony was attended by Dean Wendy Wang, Associate Dean Kim Jin and UH teacher Anna, programme (center) leaders, personal tutors and class assistants along with all freshmen of the 2023 cohort.
April Huang started the online meeting with a summary of this summer camp. She noted that many students engaged in the summer camp courses with high enthusiasm, significantly improving their bilingual skills and deepening their understanding of cultural exchange. She expressed her hope that the students would use this summer camp as a stepping stone to enhance their cross-cultural communication competence and problem-solving skills. Developing a passion for and approaches to learning English, they would lay a strong foundation for their forthcoming university life. Foreign teacherAnna sincerely reviewed the interaction between teachers and students in the summer camp. While praising the outstanding performance of the freshmen, she also sent sincere messages and best wishes to them. She hoped that every student could continuously improve their international comprehension capability and strive to become an excellent "Global Citizen".
Subsequently, all freshmen of the 2023 cohort showcased their works by class. The student representatives said that the English Summer Camp focusing on British literature, traditional cuisine, satire and humor, history of renowned universities, and Sino-British friendship sparked their aspirations for college life. Their works took various forms, including video editing, speeches and presentations, art appreciation, and musical performances. All these were not only a prospective show of the upcoming college life, but also an expression of their heartfelt thanks and best wishes to the teachers!
Dean Wendy Wang made a concluding speech. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Chinese and British faculty and staff for their hard work, and spoke highly of the learning results of all campers. As the inaugural students of Hertfordshire College, all freshmen of the 2023 cohort are the starters, witnesses and participants to the new chapter of Sino-British education cooperation in Changzhou Institute of Technology. It is hoped that they can keep inquisitive mentality, apply what they have learned in the summer camp to college life, and elevate themselves constantly to the realization of their college goals.
At the closing ceremony, outstanding individuals were commended. By this summer camp, Hertfordshire College aims to build up its collegiate culture, create a learning atmosphere for freshmen, and make preparations for the cultivation of innovative interdisciplinary talents with international vision and excellent cross-cultural communication competence.
