On the morning of January 3, 2024, Hertfordshire College held a student assembly in the auditorium on the first floor of the library to ensure better execution of all work scheduled for the end of the semester. Moderated by Kim Jin, Associate Dean, the meeting was attended by all students 2023 of the College. Dean Wendy Wang, Associate Dean Wayne Yao, and Personal Tutor Liu Guotai were in attendance at the assembly.
Wayne Yao made a summary of the teaching-related work of this semester, and introduced the plan of major arrangements for the next semester. As for students' learning methods and habits, he also made optimization suggestions and offered detailed guidance for students' personal planning. Kim Jin reviewed the work related to student affairs, and made arrangements for the social practice and academic plans during the winter vacation. He encouraged students to engage actively in various social practice activities where they might broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of society, and become "a physically and mentally healthy person with clear learning goals and all-round development of quality and ability".
Dean Wendy Wang concluded the meeting with a speech titled "An Adventurous Life Creates Infinite Possibilities", in which she placed hopes on all 2023 students. All students are encouraged to bravely explore and try their hands, and dynamically make scientific academic plans for different learning themes at different stages throughout their college life. They are expected to develop a variety of hobbies and lay a solid foundation in English in the first year, adapt to English teaching and autonomous learning and try to engage in scientific research and in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions in the second year. In the third year, they should have a clear plan for their career. All clear goals at different stages would make them highly motivated and their efficiency improved.
This assembly is not only a summary of recent work but also an indication of great importance Hertford College attaches to student development. As a collective heart-to-heart dialogue, it brings all teachers and students closer than ever. It is a shared conviction that with the joint efforts of teachers and students, Hertfordshire College will become stronger and better in the year to come.
